4H Training Curricula

4-H Afterschool is a tremendous resource for youth development professionals and volunteers. We offer a series of user-friendly resource guides that help those working with youth build the skills and knowledge they need to deliver quality educational and developmental experiences. Our resource guides include:

National 4-H Afterschool Curriculum

Starting 4-H Clubs in After-School Programs--This step-by-step guide helps you establish 4-H clubs in after-school programs.

Guiding Growth: Training Staff for Working with Youth in After-School Programs--This introductory resource guide provides youth development principles to train after-school providers, staff, and volunteers.

Extraordinary Learning Opportunities: A Sampler of 4-H Afterschool Activities--This sampler provides a wealth of diverse, proven "learn-by-doing" curricula to implement in after-school programs.

Related 4-H Training Curricula

4-H 101--4-H 101 is designed to assist staff in merging the concepts and principles of effective youth development delivered in non-formal (out of school) settings and with the management of 4-H clubs within an existing organizational structure. (USDA/CSREES)

Moving Ahead Together: Adolescent Growth and Development--Moving Ahead: Adolescent Growth and Development provides complete lesson plans and participant support materials to prepare adults to work effectively with youth in non-formal (out-of-school) settings.

Creating Youth and Adult Partnerships--Creating Youth-Adult Partnerships leads youth and adults new to group facilitation and to youth-adult partnerships through a 6-8 hour training to build their capacity to work together in true collaboration.

Youth Adult Partnerships--A Training Manual--This training manual provides activities and resources that guide more experienced trainers and practitioners of all ages through the process of engaging youth and adults equally and authentically to create community change.

Building Community Tool Kit--The Building Community Tool Kit provides practical information about creating youth-adult partnerships, mapping assets, creating community visions and plans, and mobilizing local change. The handbook makes it possible for individuals and groups everywhere to bring an asset-based approach to creating positive change in their communities.

Learning and Leading: A Tool Kit for Youth Development and Civic Activism--This curriculum provides tools and resources to enhance leadership opportunities for adolescents withing organizations and in the community.
